Stop Eating This Type of Meat First

There have been many different opinions about meat and your health. While meat is not necessarily unhealthy, you should definitely stop eating processed meat because of the harmful chemicals and the bad habits that it can influence. We’re going to take a closer look at what processed meat is and what it can do to your health.

Processed meat is defined as any meat that has been preserved, by curing, salting, smoking, canning, or drying. This includes sausages, ham, smoked meat, and even beef jerky. Processing meat introduces many toxic chemicals to the food, which can be detrimental to your health. Most processed meat contain sodium nitrite which helps to prevent the growth of bacteria, preserve the color, and improve the flavor. However, nitrite is not all creative equally, and when you fry of grill processed meat, that nitrite can turn into N-nitroso compounds which are cancer-causing substances.

Furthermore, studies have found that people who eat more processed meat live unhealthier lifestyles. For instance, many people who eat a lot of processed meat are smokers, and they eat less fruit and vegetables. This unhealthier lifestyle helps link processed meat with chronic diseases. These chronic diseases include high blood pressure, heart disease, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and bowel or stomach cancer. Of course, studies of processed meat consumption in humans are observational, but they do show that people who eat processed meat are at a higher risk to get these diseases. However, there is no proof that processed meat causes chronic diseases. Still, the connection between processed meat and chronic diseases is supported in studies in animals, including rats.

So, processed meats contain many harmful chemicals that can negatively affect your body. While you don’t have to go vegetarian, it would probably be beneficial to give up that morning bacon.

Don’t Fall For These 6 Coronavirus Myths

The COVID-19 virus, now officially named SARS-CoV-2, has rocked the entire globe, and it has thrown us all for a loop as far as our sense of reality goes. Most of our lives have been turned upside-down and completely rearranged by the impact of this virus, so it is extremely important right now for your information to be correct about the virus, for the sake of your health.

1. COVID-19 is Only Transmissible in Hot and/or Humid Climates.

COVID-19 can be transmitted in all types of weather, despite the claims of some, who have speculated that this virus is seasonal. Dr. Marc Lipsitch, DPhil, professor at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health and the Director of the Center for Communicable Disease Dynamics, says that the 2003 SARS experience is not indicative of what COVID-19 will do, and that, “…while we may expect modest declines in the contagiousness of SARS-CoV-2 in warmer, wetter weather…it is not reasonable to expect these declines alone to slow transmission enough to make a big dent.”

2. Spraying Alcohol or Chlorine All Over Your Body Can Kill COVID-19.

After the virus has already entered your body, no amount of chemicals on the outside of your body will kill it or reduce the damage that it is doing. According to the WHO, “Spraying such substances can be harmful to clothes or mucous membranes such as the eyes and mouth.” Alcohol and chlorine should only be used to sanitize surfaces like counter tops, plastic, wood, metal, doorknobs, etc., and never your skin.

3. Rinsing Your Nose with Saline Solution Can Kill the Coronavirus

According to the World Health Organization (WHO) and others, there is absolutely no evidence that this is true, although you may recover more quickly from a stuffy nose or the common cold by rinsing your nose with saline. However, the common cold is caused by a much less severe virus than COVID-19.

4. You Have to be in Contact with an Infected Person for 10 Full Minutes to Contract COVID-19

Although the Washington State Department of Health put out a paper on March 17th, 2020 that stated that you may be infected with COVID-19 if you are “…within 6-feet of a sick person with COVID-19 for about 10 minutes,” the virus can be transmitted several other ways. These include being coughed on, kissing an infected person, or sharing utensils, all of which can take less than 10 minutes.

5. Antibiotics Kill COVID-19

As always, antibiotics ONLY kill bacteria, and have absolutely no effect on viruses.

6. Coronavirus is the Deadliest Virus Known to Man

Since COVID-19 has only been around for a few months, we don’t know this information yet, and there are several other viruses that have had higher mortality rates so far. For instance, the Ebola virus is one of these.

What Smartphones Do to the Human Brain

Parents have long asserted that smartphones are turning the brains of the next generation to mush, and there are plenty of theories about the dangers of smartphones. These devices have become a huge part of our lives, but are smartphones changing us. Science has a lot to say about your brain and your smartphone.

You’re Chemically Addicted

Since notifications constantly interrupt daily life, smartphones force people to multitask. Quickly transitioning from one task to another, increases stress hormones in the brain, even if your don’t feel stressed. Often, the subject of the notification is a text from a loved one or a tweet from a favorite celebrity. Since those notifications are joyous things, they release dopamine, a neurotransmitter that produces happy feelings.

The increased stress of checking notifications makes you want more joy, so you reach for the phone more often to increase dopamine levels. This leads to more stress, so you need more dopamine to feel happy again. Humans can very easily become chemically addicted to overusing smartphones.

Your Brain is Always Alert

The brain forms habits based on experiences. Longterm smartphone use trains the brain to be in a constant state of alarm. What happens when your phone rings?

If you’re like most people, you drop everything you’re doing and rush to see what’s going on. Considering the fact that the average person receives several calls and notifications every day, this need to listen out for and respond to the smartphone leaves the brain in a constant state of minor stress.

Your Brain Shrinks

Smartphones change the structure of the brain. In a recent study, doctors compared the MRIs of regular people with the MRIs of medically diagnosed smartphone addicts. The gray matter, an important area of the brain, in the brain’s of the addicts was shrinking. This same phenomenon has been observed in the brains of people addicted to illicit drugs.

Really Weird Ways to Boost Your Immune System

Eat the “Three G’s”

Raw Garlic, ginger and the Chinese herb ginseng all have immune system-boosting properties. They’re also really pungent. It’s probably not the smelliness that does the trick, though, so don’t bother with the blue cheese.

Quaff a Pint

Drinking alcohol in moderation has been shown to decrease your risk of death and to boost your positive response to vaccinations. Well, since studies say!

Trigger Your Immunoglobulin (IGA)

The antibody immunoglobulin naturally helps to prevent colds and flus. The best part of this tip is the best way to boost your IGA —regular physical touch, best of all while having sex. Science says!

Boost Those Bacteria

Your stomach is the battleground of your immune system. Nearly three-quarters of your immunity processes occur there in the form of bacteria that fight microorganisms. You can back up those good bacteria by eating probiotics like kefir, yogurt, and the fermented drink kombucha.

Go Outside

You’ve heard of the importance of Vitamin C, but don’t stop there. Vitamin D is important to your bones and teeth, but also encourages proper immune system function. The best way to get it? Go outside in the sun. Your skin produces Vitamin D naturally from being exposed to the sun. Studies have shown that Vitamin D can help ward off multiple sclerosis, heart disease, and the flu. A beer or kombucha outside on a sunny day? Yes, please!

Walk It Off

Have you heard of forest therapy? It’s the Japanese principle Shinrin-Yoku and is sometimes called forest bathing. Some Japanese practitioners prescribe hiking as a way to boost your immune system. Even six hours of hiking over a couple of days have been shown to boost the immune system.

THIS Cooking Oil KILLS Your Brain

For years, canola oil has been hyped as a positive alternative to some of the less desirable culinary oils that are used in your kitchen. However, recent research may change all of that. Findings have shown that it isn’t as healthy as some may think and that it may be especially bad for your brain.

Here’s Why Canola Oil May Be Bad For You

As it turns out, canola oil contains many of the unhealthiest elements that fat can have. It has both trans fatty acids, Omega-6 fatty acids. Studies have shown that an overload of Omega – 6 fatty acids can cause inflammation that’s so problematic it can affect your brain, causing a host of problems including anxiety, brain fog, and Alzheimer’s.

In addition, the polyunsaturated fats found in canola oil are unstable and degrade under heat. At that point, they release free radicals that affect how your body ages and can also affect your brain. Canola oil also lacks the heathy fats your brain thrives on and, to make matters worse, is often used as a substitute for oils that do have those healthier fats.

It Is Unappetizing For Other Reasons

Canola oil is unhealthy for a few other reasons too. It’s worth knowing that the oil is actually generated from the rapeseed plant, a plant that is from the same family as mustard, broccoli and cabbage plants. Oil from this plant were considered inedible because it contained compounds that depressed growth in animals and were linked to heart disease. In the 1970’s they revised the process just enough to make it palatable to humans.

In addition, the oil is made through an unnatural process that includes a range of caustic chemicals including lye, bleach, and deodorants. This process includes a wash in hexane which is a neurotoxin that can also be found in gasoline.

Consider Other Options For Healthy Oils

With this much risk to your brain, it may be wise to consider other options for healthier fats. Well-made olive oil or coconut oil are two choices, but there are others. Once you do research, you’re likely to find a choice that’s as good for your brain as it is for your heart and your taste buds.

Are You Making Your Grandkids Fat?

You cherish your grandchildren as your blood, but there’s so much less responsibility than you had with your own kids. This means you can get away with giving them a few more treats, right?

Unfortunately, while you mean well – encouraging them to eat more volume and variety because it’s good for them – this could lead to weight problems for your grandchildren. This is what a study published in the journal Childhood Obesity concluded.

A team from the Brown School at Washington University in St. Louis looked at various studies and concluded that children cared for by their grandparents had a 30% increased chance of being overweight or obese. Lead author of the study, Professor Ruopeng An, said: “Through offering wisdom, teaching traditions, providing guidance and making memories, grandparents often leave behind a legacy that their grandchildren will cherish. However, some negative influences from grandparental care may also be present and cannot be overlooked.”

Sadly, these negative elements include diet and exercise. This includes larger meals, more snacks, and more sweet and fried foods that kids’ parents might not usually give them. The older generation may have experienced poverty or rations when they were younger, and less of a food range – particularly junk food – so they don’t want grandkids to ‘miss out’.

In terms of exercise, the researchers posited that grandparents are more likely to let their kids off housework – which is a good calorie burner. Their age might also mean the kids are doing less physical activities when they’re together.

Interestingly the researchers found that the studies – from the United States, the United Kingdom, China, Japan, and five other nations – all came to similar conclusions about grandchildren’s health. Of course, you love your grandkids dearly, but with this in mind, ensure they keep active and don’t associate your company with too many food treats!

THIS Will Make You Much Happier Than Money (not love)

Exercise offers a lot of mental health benefits

Depression is considered a mental health crisis in this country. People often look to money, jobs, or love to make them happy. But those factors aren’t always controllable. For many, it’s easier to blame outside sources for being depressed than it is to take the responsibility themselves.

How can this be done? A new study shows you can take control of your moods and overall mental health by getting up off the couch and moving. If you’re healthy enough to move around, you can indeed increase your mood with exercise.

According to the study, people are looking in the wrong places for happiness. Researchers for the study followed the results of two different participant groups, one that exercised regularly, and one did not. Researchers found that the group that exercised had an astounding 43% fewer days of feeling depressed than those that did not exercise. That’s a lot of people!

Working out helps the body and mind

All the participants in the exercise group noticed some improvement. However, there were some activities that helped participants feel better than others, The activities that showed the most improvement were team sports, aerobics, cycling, and gym activities.

The duration of the exercise also impacted how participants felt. To have an effect, exercise needed to be at least 45 minutes long and to occur between three and five times per week. Researchers found that exercise routines can be tailored for each person to match their needs.

The best part of these findings is that exercise helps physically. If you aren’t at the point where you feel physically fit enough to exercise in front of others, you can do it at home by yourself. If you’re looking to connect with people, going to the gym or joining a sports team is even better. Just about everybody can benefit from working out. Now we have no more excuses!

5 Steps To Never Get Sick

When flu season rolls around, it seems like there’s no way to avoid getting sick. With so many sniffling and sneezing people around you, it may feel impossible. Follow these five steps, however, and you’re likely to stay illness-free.

  1. Clean your phone. People that avoid getting sick disinfect their phones, even if it doesn’t look dirty. Just think about it, you carry this device around with you everywhere—maybe even into the bathroom. If you don’t take the time to wipe it down once in a while, you’ll simply be accumulating a gross amount of germs.
  2. Sleep well. Your immune system can’t do its job if you aren’t well rested. Get those eight hours on the clock, and you’ll be one step closer to avoiding a cough!
  3. Don’t press an elevator button. Don’t touch commonly used surfaces in general, including door handles. With so many hands leaving their mark, it’s an easy way for a virus to spread. Instead, use your elbows or forearm to press buttons and open doors, or carry a pack of tissues with you for the occasion.
  4. Drink water. Just like sleep is necessary for a strong body, water is necessary for good constitution. It will help you flush any unwanted germs from your body and keep your immune system working right. When in doubt, drink another glass of water!
  5. Stay stress-free. Sure, it may sound silly, but working on your mental health can be beneficial to your physical health, as well. Studies have found that stress-reducing activities—like yoga and meditation—can strengthen your immune system and help you avoid illness. And really, who doesn’t appreciate a little rest and relaxation?

With just a bit more care and maintenance, you can drastically reduce the number of times you get sick a year, if not avoid it altogether!

What’s Really Causing Your IBS?

IBS or irritable bowel syndrome can be a painful and debilitating condition. IBS is described as painful constipation, diarrhea, or abdominal pain. Not only can IBS irritate your gut but it can also take a toll on your mood and mental health.

This guide will discuss the link between your brain and your gut and how managing your stress levels may be able to give you some much-needed relief.

Learn how your mental state can trigger your body’s fight-or-flight response and the physical stress of IBS.

The Link Between Your Brain And Your Gut

New studies show that emotional stress may actually make your IBS symptoms worse. That’s because your body is made up of cells and nerves. These nerves run from your brain through the rest of your body including your intestines and your stomach.

Through this network of nerves, your stomach and your brain are constantly talking to each other. When you are feeling content, happy, and well-rested, for example, you’ll feel better in your gut. When you feel stressed, angry, or anxious, you’ll feel these negative emotions in your gut as well.

IBS And The Fight-Or-Flight Response

Stress in your body will trigger a fight-or-flight reaction. When you’re stressed, your hormones start gushing. Your nervous system will react and stop digestion to keep danger at bay.

When your digestion slows down, you will start to feel abdominal pain and gastrointestinal problems.

Changing The Way You Think Can Help Your IBS

If you can find ways to keep your stress levels down, you may also see an improvement in your IBS pain and symptoms.

The less you trigger your body’s fight-or-flight response, the less likely you will see that painful slowdown of your digestive system.

Relaxation, mindful meditation, yoga, time outdoors, and physical activity, can all help you keep your stress levels down. With less stress and less anxiety, you may see a big improvement in your IBS symptoms.
